Mission and vision

Mission

MAP is a cultural meeting place in the heart of Sint-Niklaas and the Waasland region. The visitor is at the centre of everything we do. At MAP, people of all ages and backgrounds can experience art and heritage in a new way. MAP combines heritage with technology in an inspiring way. We challenge our visitors to be creative, think critically, and connect current, global themes with their own local surroundings and identity.

Vision

We are developing MAP into a welcoming, inclusive site, with 'service design' as our starting point: we begin with the specific needs, preferences and limitations of the user. With Sint-Niklaas as both a central and a school town, schools are one of the cornerstones of our work. In addition, we aim to appeal to as many different types of visitors as possible by offering a varied programme tailored to different audiences across our four museums. Our sub-collections, all deeply rooted in the Waasland region, retain their distinct, wider significance, while at the same time being linked to contemporary themes and modern technologies — ensuring the museum remains socially relevant as an institution.
